Press coverage of last night’s meeting

10 Dec

252 people!

9 Dec

More later, but thank you to everyone that turned out last night.  I believe our concerns are starting to resonate with the board, which is causing them to consider alternate locations to have dealerships.  This is definately a good thing!

Over 400 petition signatures!

8 Dec

400 people have now signed the petition, plus numerous “physical” signatures gathered from the picketing.

Thanks to all those who signed and gathered these signatures!

Properties being purchased?

8 Dec

We are being advised that additional properties around the intersection are being bought up!  Prior to a decision!  Very odd.

If you don’t want dealerships ALL AROUND THIS INTERSECTION WE IMPLORE YOU TO COME TO THE MEETING!   8pm Thursday, Municipal Building.

The stakes are raised,  we need concerned residents to take the time to attend.  Help us stop this!

Ghost of dealership future…

7 Dec

This being the holiday season.

This article, in a nutshell nails a concern we all have.

Between the testimony we have given at the meetings (see youtube links below), and common sense that a dealership is more problematic than an office building, I really would like to believe that the planning board will make the right decision.

All that being said, it is extremely important that everyone attend the meeting.  If you’ve already joined us, thank you.   If you haven’t yet,  make the investment in time to help try to prevent this.

Residents Picket Against Proposed Car Dealerships on Rt. 9

Important actions for this week

3 Dec

Most importantly.  Please attend the Planning Board Meeting, this Thursday 8pm at the Municipal Building.   It is important to have as many people as possible present to show the board that this is an unacceptable change.   Please send this link to everyone you know, not just those in the immediate area.   If the town is willing to consider this change here, your neighborhood could be next for a land use change!

Some of you may be seeing this website for the first time…  if so, here is a quick recap.

Manalapan Township is considering changing the Master Plan, which defines zoning for the town to allow dealerships on the Taylor’s Mill Road intersection.  For many reasons, not the least of which, is traffic, we believe this is a very bad idea.

There have been several town and zoning board meetings on the topic… packed with angry residents expressing their displeasure and citing important reasons not to have this change made.

A good summary of our issues is in the youtube video below of the main town meeting discussing this.   Fast forward past the guy in the light blue sweater (45 minute mark) (discussing the new garbage collection vendor), the rest is regarding the proposed dealership.

This article also recaps our issues:

Its important for everyone to attend this week’s planning meeting.  Its likely they will make a decision on this.  Please attend to show your support.   Each and every person at this meeting will show to the board that the residents/voters are not in favor of this.

A key point to this is that the Master Plan was conceived to guide growth in Manalapan, and has so far served us well.  The town is looking to throw it out in the window.   If so, whats next?   Even though the building is empty, the taxes are being paid.  If this and potentially other dealerships surround this intersection, property values will plummet.  If so, we’ll all seek reassessment, which will cancel out the taxes paid by that building, so whats the point!

In the residents guides that were published by the town, an anecdote is that Manalapan, in native american, means “Land of Good bread”… lets not have it come to mean “Land of Good Cars”

This change, and the path it puts us on, of lets put anything anywhere, must be stopped.   We all came to Manalapan for a suburban setting, knowing the types of businesses and land around us.  This is an unacceptable change!

Your voice/attendance could  be the one that makes the difference!

If a flyer you see is not acknowledged here, its not from me.   Some people are coordinating efforts, some aren’t.   That’s all I will say on the matter.  It’s certainly a learning experience.

If you are putting the energy to do flyers, please contact me, coordinated efforts give the most “bang for the buck”.    I understand the desire to do SOMETHING, but in some cases it may set the effort back.

Thanks.
